Parents and the broader community play a vital role in supporting successful learning outcomes for our children.

'There is strong consensus, supported by a variety of evidence dating from over 40 years, that positive parental engagement can and does significantly influence student academic attainment.' (Emerson, Fear, Fox and Sanders 2012).

Effective communication between schools, parents, the community and students forms the foundation in developing and maintaining partnerships.

Communication about student progress

At Moranbah State School, we provide many formal and informal opportunities for parents to find out about their children's progress at school.

Some of these include:

  • Reports on student performance are issued twice per year.
  • Parent teacher interviews occur after terms one, two and three.
  • Teachers email parents regarding general class information and specific student issues.
  • Parents are always welcome to make an appointment with their child’s teacher. Teachers are unavailable for parent meetings between 8.45 am and 9.00 am, as this is when they are preparing their classrooms and students for learning. To contact your child’s teacher, please call the school office.

Other information about our school is communicated through:

  • Our school newsletters are published weekly via email and our website.
  • The school annual report which is published each year and is available on the school website.
  • Updates are posted on our Facebook page.
  • Letters are sent home with information about specific events.
  • Our weekly parades are held on Thursday at 2:15 pm and parents are very welcome to attend.

Becoming involved

Parents can be involved in a range of school activities such as assisting in the classroom, attending school events, assisting in the tuckshop and becoming involved in the Parents and Citizen’s Association. Everyone is welcome.
