Solid foundations for your child’s future academic and social/emotional success are built in Years 1 to 3 at Moranbah State School. Literacy and Numeracy is the core business of our school, in every room, for every student, every day. Building on the foundations learnt in the Prep year, we are able to provide quality learning pathways for all students to reach their full potential.
In Years 1 to 3 classrooms:

we implement explicit teaching practices in the delivery of reading, writing and numeracy on a daily basis

use warm ups for consolidation of core concepts

students access modern technology in the classroom and in designated computer time

teachers continually monitor and assess to identify individual students’ learning needs though individual student feedback

dedicated teachers who are supported through coaching and mentoring to ensure they maintain high professional standards

have specialist teachers providing programs in Health and Physical Education and The Arts

have some curriculum excursions.
Intervention programs in literacy target students who need extra support to achieve academic targets in reading; including resource teachers who facilitate explicit and targeted reading group sessions in each classroom; support-a-reader for students’ in year 2 and 3; ELF program for student requiring further support in Year 1.
